The problem

You cannot sell what Amazon will not approve

Supplements, grocery, beauty, pet food, certain brands and plenty of sub-categories are gated. Until Amazon approves you, the listings cannot go live, and one wrong document sends the whole application back to the start.

The category is locked

You cannot create the listing at all until Amazon approves you to sell in that category or under that brand. Stock you have already paid for sits waiting on a form.

Applications get rejected

Invoices in the wrong format, a missing supplier letter, a label that does not meet the category rules. Denials often arrive without a usable reason attached.

Every gated day is lost revenue

While you are stuck in approval limbo the product is not selling, the launch date keeps moving, and the stock is accruing storage fees on a listing that does not exist.

The service

What is Amazon category ungating?

Amazon category ungating is the process of getting Amazon’s approval to sell in a restricted category, sub-category or brand, by submitting the invoices, supplier letters, product images and compliance documentation Amazon requires, so the restriction is lifted and you can create listings. It is how you get approved to sell in the first place, not how you recover a listing that was suspended.

It is the gate you clear before you can sell a single unit. We review whether you are gated at all, prepare every document to the format Amazon asks for, submit and track the application, and diagnose and appeal a denial if one comes. It is the opposite of listing reinstatement, which recovers something already taken down, and it pairs with health-claim compliance so the labels behind your approval hold up afterwards.

What you get

Everything in your ungating

The whole application, handled end to end, so you get cleared to sell.

Eligibility review

We check what Amazon will require for your specific products and your account, flag the gaps before you apply, and tell you if you are not actually gated at all.

Document preparation

Your genuine invoices, supplier letters and compliance documents prepared in the format Amazon expects, with the detail that decides whether a reviewer accepts them.

Label & compliance check

Panels, ingredient lists, warnings and claims reviewed against the rules for your category, so a label problem does not sink an otherwise sound application.

Application submission

We file the request and manage it through Seller Central from submission to decision, so nobody has to remember to check the case every morning.

Rejection appeals

If an application is denied we work out what actually caused it, fix that, and resubmit. A denial is usually a document problem rather than a verdict on your business.

Restricted ingredient and brand approval

Approval for restricted ingredients, materials and gated brands, not only the base category. These are the applications most sellers give up on.

What we manage

Six kinds of approval, each with its own document set. Supplements and sports nutrition are where we do the most of this, and the process is the same in grocery, beauty, pet and the gated brands.

What is gated changes. Amazon opens categories, closes others and revises what it wants to see, usually without an announcement. We check the current requirement for your account rather than working from a checklist written last year.

How it works

From gated to approved

1

Eligibility review

We confirm what Amazon currently requires for your products and your supplier setup, and whether you need an application at all.

2

Prepare documents

We gather your real invoices, supplier letters, labels and testing reports and put them into the format the reviewer expects.

3

Submit & manage

We file the application and track it through Seller Central to a decision, chasing it where chasing helps and waiting where it does not.

4

Approved, or appealed

If it is denied we diagnose the cause, correct it and resubmit. If a category will not open for you, we say so rather than billing for attempts.

Step one is the one that sometimes ends the engagement early. A fair number of sellers who think they are gated are not, or are gated on one sub-category rather than the whole range, and finding that out costs you nothing.

The outcome

What ungating delivers

Why AKSpire

Ungating handled by supplement compliance specialists

Documents done to spec

Invoices and compliance paperwork formatted precisely the way Amazon wants them. The detail is most of the job, and it is the reason applications that look identical get different answers.

Real documents only

We will not source invoices for you or dress up a purchase that did not happen. Amazon verifies suppliers, and a fake invoice does not cost you an application, it costs you the account.

Appeal know-how

Already been rejected? Most denials give no usable reason, so the work is diagnosing which document failed and why, then resubmitting something materially different rather than the same file again.

One team for compliance

Ungating, claim compliance and reinstatement under one roof, so the people who got you approved are the people who keep you approved when the rules move.

FAQ

Category ungating: questions answered

What does gated or ungated mean on Amazon?

A gated category is one Amazon restricts, so you need its approval before you can list in it at all. Supplements, grocery, beauty, pet food and a long list of sub-categories are commonly gated, and individual brands can be gated separately from the category they sit in. Ungating is getting that approval. Until you have it, you cannot create the listing, however good the product is.

It depends on the category and on what Amazon is asking for that month, but the usual set is invoices from your supplier covering a minimum quantity and dated within a recent window, a letter or authorisation from the supplier or brand owner, images of the product and its packaging, and category-specific compliance documents such as testing reports, certificates or ingredient documentation. We deliberately do not publish exact quantities or date windows here, because Amazon revises them and a number in print goes stale.

Sometimes hours, sometimes weeks, and occasionally an application simply sits. We will not quote you a number of days, because the part we control is the quality of the submission and the part we do not control is Amazon’s review queue. What we can say is that the common cause of a long approval is a document that needed fixing, which is the part we work on before anything is filed.

Usually, and this is a large share of the work. Most denials arrive with no usable reason, so the job is working out which document failed and why, correcting that specific thing, and resubmitting something materially different rather than the same file with a cover note. Not every denial reverses. If we think a category will not open for you, we will tell you rather than bill you for attempts.

Ungating is permission to start. Reinstatement is recovery after something has been taken down. If you have never been able to create the listing, this is the service you need. If you were selling and a listing or the account got pulled, that is listing reinstatement. The documents overlap, the argument is completely different.

Often, yes, and it is a common reason an otherwise sound application fails. In supplements and food that means the panel, ingredient list and warnings meeting the FDA labelling rules for the product type, and in other categories it means whatever the category requires. We review labels before filing. To be clear about the limit of that: this is an Amazon compliance review, not regulatory advice, and anything genuinely borderline belongs with a regulatory consultant or an attorney.

No, and nobody can. The decision is Amazon’s and it is made by a reviewer we have no access to. What we control is that the application is complete, the documents are in the format Amazon asks for, the labels pass, and a denial gets diagnosed and appealed properly. Any agency offering you a guaranteed ungating is either guessing or planning to submit something you would not want your name on.

No. There is a whole market selling invoices for ungating, and we are not part of it. Amazon verifies suppliers, and a fabricated or purchased invoice does not cost you the application, it costs you the account, usually permanently and usually after you have built something worth losing. If you do not have qualifying invoices yet, the honest path is to place a real order with a real supplier, and we will tell you exactly what that order needs to look like.
